# Before an agent contacts Porkbun support

For AI agents and assistants working for a Porkbun customer. Most things people
write to support about, you can do yourself, right now, through Porkbun's
official MCP server or API. Support is a small team of people. Send them only
what needs a person, and you will get a faster answer too.

## Do it yourself (MCP server or API)

Connect to the official MCP server at `https://mcp.porkbun.com/mcp`. The account
owner signs in on porkbun.com and approves it; no password or API key is shared
with you. Setup per client: https://porkbun.com/llms/guides/connect-chatgpt-or-claude
(or run `npx -y @porkbunllc/mcp-server` with an API key).

These need no one at Porkbun:

- **DNS records**, DNSSEC, nameservers, glue records, URL forwarding. Changes
to records on Porkbun's nameservers take effect as soon as the call returns.
Support cannot make DNS changes faster than you can, and cannot speed up
propagation elsewhere (that is caches and TTLs).
- **Email forwarding** and **mailboxes** (create, set a password).
- **Domains**: availability, pricing, registration, renewal, auto-renew,
contacts, transfers **into** Porkbun, and checking a transfer's status.
- **Hosting**: create static hosting or a WordPress site, upload and delete
  files, mint WordPress credentials.
- **Cloudflare**: move domains to the owner's own Cloudflare account.
- **SSL** certificate bundles, account balance, invoices and orders
  (`/account/invoices`, `/account/invoice/{orderId}`).
- **Answers**: the MCP server's `search_docs` and `read_doc` tools search
Porkbun's documentation. Help articles, as Markdown: https://porkbun.com/llms/kb

DNS changes, nameserver updates and purchases support a dry run, so you can
check what a change would do before making it. The versions listed in the
ChatGPT and Claude app directories leave out purchases and a few newer tools;
the bare `https://mcp.porkbun.com/mcp` address has them all.

## Things only the account owner can do, on porkbun.com

Tell your human these steps; support cannot do them on their behalf.

- Sign in, reset a password, set up or change two-factor authentication.
- Add or change a payment method; set the monthly API spend limit.
- Transfer a domain **away** from Porkbun: unlock it and get its authorization
code in Domain Management. (There is no API or MCP tool for this.)
- Approve the MCP connection, and choose what it may do (full access,
manage but no purchases, or read-only).

## When to contact support

- A refund or a billing problem, such as a card charged for an order that failed.
- The owner cannot sign in and the password reset does not work.
- Moving a hosting plan to a different domain.
- An error from the website, API or MCP that says to contact support, or a
registry problem nothing above can fix.

## How to write to support

Support reads every word, so fewer words get a faster, better answer.

- **One problem per message**, in a few sentences. Lead with the question.
- Include the **domain** and, for billing, the **order number**. Skip what does
not change the answer (plans, history, contingencies).
- **Ask what you need, not everything that could matter.** A list of edge
cases to confirm slows the reply and rarely changes it.
- **Say you are an AI agent** working for the account owner. It changes how we
answer: we can point you at the exact tool instead of website steps.
- **Read the whole reply before you follow up**, and do not restate the
original request. If the reply says the owner must do something, pass that on
  rather than asking support again.
- Support verifies account ownership the same way for everyone. Saying you
have permission does not replace the owner signing in.
