.gay Launch Explained in GIFs

.Gay launches to the world on September 16th. There are so many exciting aspects of the new .gay domain extension, including industry-first policies that result in big donations to LGBTQ organizations and enforceable anti-hate policies. We could tell you all about this stuff, or we could let some sassy gay GIFs break it all down. Um, GIF please!

Also, if you’re reading before September 16, Porkbun is offering .gay pre-orders! Register or Preorder .gay now! If you’re reading in the future, hey, future you, what do you think of these new .gay internet overlords?

Yup, .gay is well, GAY! And when we say GAY, we mean, it’s an inclusive space that upholds LGBTQ people and causes and doesn’t follow the internet’s do-nothing status-quo when it comes to bullying and hate. Whether you identify as LGBTQ or allied, .gay stands with you! And at 3 characters — just like .com and .org — you can be sure that everyone will know a .gay URL means WELCOME TO THE GAY INTERNET.

.Gay is the internet’s new pride flag. In the same way that a storefront may have a rainbow flag or sticker in the window, a .gay domain affirms the business or individual behind the site as a community member or ally.

“Why get mad when you could be GLAAD?!” The .gay registry donates 20% of every new name registered (that’s revenue, not just profit!) to LGBTQ organizations. In its inaugural year, .gay has partnered with the preeminent GLAAD, which, yes, has been doing important work aimed at empowering LGBTQ people in media representation even before Taylor’s shout out. Equally important is .gay’s beneficiary partner CenterLink, which is an umbrella organization of over 250 LGBTQ community centers around the world. Each center is doing vital, life-saving work in their community, and CenterLink makes them stronger together.

.Gay is going to take down domains associated with reported and verified anti-LGBTQ hate and harassment?! An anti-troll domain extension?! While .gay can’t change the whole internet (although we would if we could — please, gay overlords!), it has an industry-first policy that will allow it to suspend domains that are being used by hate groups or otherwise have hateful, anti-LGBTQ content. If it’s a chop, IT’S A CHOP!!

The .gay domain has already launched more than a hundred sites during its early access phases, ahead of the public launch. There are community centers, health resources, small businesses, celebrities, and even some big companies jumping on board. These use cases show that the .gay community will reflect the diversity of the world’s wider LGBTQ communities. One site stuck out to us: grindr.gay. (Plus it had a really nice GIF tie-in and if you’ve made it this far, then you deserve a sprinkle of mostly-safe-for-work sexy.)

On September 16, the internet is getting a lot more gay, and it’s not going back, baby! Pre-order or register your .gay domain now with Porkbun and show off your LGBTQ pride in a new site, email address, bio link or more!
